Skimmed Traffic -Part of Your Marketing Strategy

Everyone is looking for ways to get Internet traffic these days, and ‘skimmed traffic’ is one of them. It is a type of Internet traffic that is directed to your approved website via thumbnails, pop-up windows or other banner ads that someone might click on and then be redirected to your site. This type of traffic is most often gleaned from adult content websites. Once a person clicks on one of these thumbnails or banners, they are redirected to a promotional page or special offer on your website. ‘Skimming traffic’ is just that – it is skimmed from other websites that are already receiving a lot of hits.

Using this traffic Strategy on Your Own Website

One way to gain new members or customers is to set up skimming links on your own website. You can assign each banner on your website to send a certain number of hits to a predetermined page that offers a special incentive or deal to your prospective customers.

Another way skimmed traffic is used is by creating text links that deliver a customer to a TGP, Tube Site or Play-site with adult oriented content. This is often called ‘blind’ traffic because it is coming from adult oriented sited on the Internet. Although users can be directed straight to a sales-pitch page, it usually works best for free sites looking to gain traffic and future customers, or just a higher page ranking. Skimmed traffic can be an effective marketing tool for almost any type of site – even if it is not adult oriented. You can also use filters when utilizing this traffic approach so that you only receive click-throughs from certain geographical areas or based on other demographics you set up in a system.

The one thing about skimmed traffic is that it can be considered a little misleading, since the image or text link can suggest that a person is going to end up on a very different page then they actually do. The best skimmed links, banners or pictures will at least be partly related to the end site to avoid click-throughs that immediately leave the page. Since this traffic is paid for by the click usually, it makes sense to lead the person into a place that they might actually want to consider staying for a moment or two – offer some valuable or interesting information, for instance, or something engaging and entertaining.

For newer websites, skimmed traffic can be a vital addition to an overall marketing plan. It should not; however, be the sole means of directing customers to a site. It can be included with an overall plan that should consist of high-quality content and organic hits, as well as skimmed clicks to really make a difference in long-term page rank stats. More established websites can use this means of marketing to boost a new product or increase overall visibility to consumers. Redirecting traffic from other high-traffic sites is an age old practice – it’s been around almost since the Internet’s inception, but traffic skimming is a way to boost traffic for a site that it still growing.
